When asked by journalists about his thoughts regarding possible warfare in Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey will “never ceasefire. “Declare a ceasefire, they say. We will never declare a ceasefire, we do not sit at the table with terrorist organizations,” referring to Syria’s Assad regime which has decided to oppose the Turks’ recent military acts in parts of Syria.
Syria borders Turkey to the north, and in the north lies the Kurdish people, a religious group that claims that Turkey is part of their territory. This is because the Kurds have lied in the same region for centuries, and say it is their homeland. Originally, the United States defending the Kurds from possible invasion from Turkey, but two weeks ago President Donald Trump pulled troops out of northern Syria where the Kurds are, leading Turkey to regain territory that the Kurds once owned. Since this territory is still technically part of Syria, the Syrian government is helping the Kurds defend it.
In addition to Syria helping back the Kurds, Russia has also helped with Syria and the Kurdish people, as they are allies with Syria. The United States support the rebels in Syria, as the Assad regime that rules over the country has repeatedly used chemical weapons and attacks on its own people, and is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States.
